Lonely Graves Main Page

The sad deaths of 4 men during an explosion underground. The accident shocked the community and the remains were buried in two coffins in a grave large enogh for four. There graves were the only ones with a headstone erected by the community.

Hay, George Hopetown 22/12/1901 Aged 15 months
Hogan, Daniel 31/8/1899 Aged 22. He was killed in explosion underground at Fields Find.
King, Edward Era (Ned) 31/8/1899 Aged 26. He was killed in explosion underground at Fields Find.
Payne, William 31/8/1899 Aged 36. He was killed in explosion underground at Fields Find.
Smith, Frederick 31/8/1899 Aged 27. He was killed in explosion underground at Fields Find.
Smith, John 22/9/1900 Aged 55, he was a water carter and committed suicided by strangling himself.
Tobin, Patrick 25/12/1941 Aged 74. Died of heart and lung disease.
Walsue, Robert 4/1/1927 Aged 54, Died of heart failure, and he was a prospector.
Wilks, Salina Pearl 17/8/1911 Aged 6 weeks. The baby died from convulsions.
